Inspection of weld testing / Examination of Welds
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is defined as wide spectrum of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of material, component or system without causing damage. DARLSCO has written procedure(s) and confirmed the qualification requirements of different methods, level and sector leading to issuance of Inspection Report/ Certificate. The competency of DARLSCO Engineer(s)/ technicians approved written practices and industry standards included but not limited to CP-189, SNT – TC- 1A, ASME, API, NACE, ANSI & AWS- CWI.
All the NDT equipment are calibrated by DAC approved laboratory and maintained in good condition to be utilized for any project. The method/ techniques are accredited by Dubai Accreditation Centre (DAC) included but not limited to Penetrant testing (PT), Visual and optical testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)/ MPT, Ultrasonic testing (UT), Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (UT-UFD), Electromagnetic testing/ Eddy Current testing (ET)/ECT - Welding Inspection/NDT Without Paint Removal, Positive Material Identification (PMI), Radiography, Leak Testing, Acoustic Emission Testing(AE). In addition, Vacuum box testing, hardness testing, ferrite testing, anchor chain Inspection, Ferrite testing, Heat treatment ( PWHT & Stress relive).
Dye Penetrant Test (DPT)/ Liquid Penetrant Test (LPT)/ Physical Testing (PT)
DPT/ LPT/PT is the method of material testing to detect cracks and is one of the oldest method. DARLSCO is capable of providing any type of DPT/ LPT to suite the client’s requirement based on ASME/ AWS and any other applicable and relevant standards.
Limitations
The major limitation of LPT says that it can detect only imperfections that are open to the surface/ ambient air. Surface Roughness is a factor inhibits the effectiveness of LPT. False indication can be produced due to rough or porous surfaces. The test depends on liquid's effectively wetting the surface of a solid work piece of specimen, flowing over the migrating into cavities that are open to the surface/ambient air, which is Closely related to wetting ability is the phenomenon of capillary rise or depression.
The procedure to carry out LPT are included but not limited to Surface Preparation, Application of Penetrant, Removal of excess penetrant, Application of developer, Observation and Reporting.
